Connect with our work

Volunteer

Volunteering with UIC is a way to live our values of kinship, reciprocity, and collective care in action. Whether you are Indigenous or an ally, volunteering offers a pathway to support our mission of improving access to culturally rooted health, wellness, and community programs in Lenapehoking and beyond.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available to both Indigenous and Allied Members of UIC.
If you’re not yet a member, please complete the UIC Membership & Enrollment Form before signing up to volunteer.

We invite volunteers to bring their gifts, skills, and lived experiences to support areas such as:

  • Community events (e.g., Indigenous Peoples Day, powwow outreach, talking circles)
  • Cultural and wellness programming (craft workshops, beading circles, sweat lodges, retreats)
  • Communications and outreach (tabling, social media, photography, storytelling)
  • Administrative and research support (CBPR, data entry, evaluation)

Volunteer Training

All volunteers are required to complete UIC’s Volunteer Training, which provides grounding in:

  • Indigenous protocols and values of kinship and reciprocity
  • Cultural humility and allyship practices
  • Community safety and confidentiality
  • Trauma-informed and decolonized approaches to service

This training ensures every volunteer enters our spaces with respect, readiness, and cultural awareness.

How to Get Involved

To become a volunteer:

  1. Review the opportunities and expectations above
  2. If you’re not yet a member, please complete the UIC Membership & Enrollment Form before signing up to volunteer.
  3. Complete our 2026 Volunteer Sign-up
  4. Attend the required Volunteer Training before participating in events or programs.
